I Am Every Genre—and I Write Like It

I wrote in a diary as a child. As a young teenager, I wrote poems and short stories. All through high school I kept journals and wrote song lyrics. When my children were little, I wrote them each a book; a rhyming, picture book and a chapter book inspired by my daughter. Starting to write more often as an adult, I had a desire to continue writing different genres and working on a wide variety of projects.
I Don't Want to "Stay in My Lane"
After I finished the first version of my adult fiction novel, I took a break. In my downtime, I wrote a fun, adult innuendo book that is illustrated like a children's novel. Before publishing it, I contemplated whether I should release under my own name or a pen name. I understood the pros and cons, such as consistency for brand recognition, confusion to readers, and marketing. At the end of the day, I decided to release under my name. Why not? Why do I have to be confined to one category, one genre, stuffed into one box? That would suffocate me quickly.
Unapologetically Me
I am many things; I am intelligent, I am silly, I am dirty-minded, I am soft, I am hard, I am all the things that most people are if they release the ties that bind them and embrace their true desires.
I have a lot to say and I intend to say it.
On my terms, in my time.
If you like my style, that's great. If you don't? Keep scrolling. I have handed out all the fucks that I had, so I have no more left to give.
My advice to you? Write without fear. Own your words. Publish as many genres and styles as you choose. Being a self-publisher can be a lot of work, but you can make it happen.
